School LMS & RFID Access Control

A learning platform connected to the turnstiles at the school gate.

The Problem

The Problem

A school was running its teaching and its building separately. Class registers were taken on paper and entered later; the entrance was controlled by a standalone gate whose card list had to be maintained by hand. A student who left the school remained on the gate list until somebody remembered to remove them.

The Workflow

The Workflow

A student is enrolled on a course and belongs to a class. The same student profile determines whether their card opens the turnstile, and the moment the card is presented is the moment attendance should be recorded.

What We Built

What We Built

  • Student management: student profiles, class management, course enrolment, attendance, academic records and student status management.
  • Learning: online and recorded lessons, learning materials, homework, assignments, quizzes, tests, progress tracking and lesson planning.
  • Teacher tools: teacher profiles, homework distribution and submission, student evaluation and attendance.
  • Communication: student notifications, parent communication, announcements and automated reminders.
  • Access control: RFID cards and readers, entrance and exit readers, access permissions, entry and exit logging, real-time validation and an administration dashboard.
Integrations

Integrations

  • RFID cards and readers
  • Turnstile gates at the entrance and exit
  • API-based access decisions taken against the student profile
  • Parent notification by email and messaging
Result

Result

The card list is no longer maintained separately: a change to a student profile changes what the turnstile does. Attendance is recorded when the student passes the gate rather than transcribed afterwards, and administration works from one dataset instead of two.
